C2 (1913)
This car was sold new in London as a rolling chassis in 1913. It was purchased by the Royal Navy for use as a staff car. It was fitted with a body built by the London and Improved Coachwork Co. Ltd. and painted Khaki in colour. In 1921 it was sold to Mr Victor Pollux in Wayneflete, SW London. Mr Polux was a farmer and up until 1953 he would often be seen taking his farm produce to market in a trailer pulled by this car. In 1953 it was put on blocks for storage on the farm. It was then sold in 1958 to Mr Hugh Farrant who stripped the car down and restored it, replacing the khaki with the present royal blue. Neither bores nor bearings showed any signs of wear and the engine was rebuilt without need for any engineering work. Hugh Farrant then sold the car in 1961 to a Mr Eric Thompson who then sold it to a Mr. James, from Gosden Farm House, Bramley, in Surrey. In 1964 the C2 was sold to Peter Black who was a collector of very old cars who owned a car museum in Grage St., Heighley. In the mid nineties Peter Black passed away and his nephews decided to sell his collection. The C2 was offered by the auction house Brooks in Beaulieu in 1999 and it was purchased by the present owner who returned it to Germany.
During the period of ownership by Peter Black, this car featured in three movies including "A Woman of Substance" (1984). Chassis No: 3,996 Engine No: 4,008 |
