D3A (1923)

This car was sold new in Melbourne by local Stoewer agents Jones and Levy in 1923.  It was fitted with a local touring car body by Apex Body Works.  Both Jones and Levy and Apex were located in the same block in Brunswick Rd, Fitzroy, an inner suburb of Melbourne.  The original owner was Bill Hotker of German decent, a wheat farmer in Minyip in North-West Victoria.  The present owner discovered this car in 1967 in a 36 horse stable on Bill's wheat farm.  Bill said he had paid £1250 for the car new, a small fortune at a time when the purchase of a Rolls Royce would have cost less. The car was authentically restored by Frank Shield in Melbourne with completion achieved by 1981 in time for Bill Hotker, then 96 years of age, to see the finished result.
