In 1923 Stoewer offered to the Australian market a D3 rolling chassis with the engine bore enlarged from 75 mm to 78 mm and with a corresponding increase in horsepower from 24 to 32.  The compliance plate on these cars was designated "D3A".  In Australia they were marketed as the "sports" or "high performance" model of the D3. Between 1924 and 1925 the D3A was released in Germany as the D9.  The car photographed was bought new in Melbourne in 1923 with an Australian body constructed by Apex Body Works in Fitzroy.  The car was restored for its second and current owner in 1987.
