In a bold move considering the difficult economic situation and increasing fuel prices in Germany in 1928, Stoewer, together with Horsch, were the first to introduce an 8-cylinder car to the German market.  In fact, in 1928 Stoewer introduced four different models each having a straight-8 engine of different size. These engines were all designed by Bernhard Stoewer in cooperation with Fritz Fiedler who also assisted Horch in developing his 8-cylinder engine and who later was responsible for the famous BMW 328 sports car.
